A little help. Back to your words.
Setup and everyday help for EchoLeaf on iPhone and Mac.
Updated October 29, 2026 · iPhone & MacStart on iPhone
Sign in with Apple, choose your speech language, and allow microphone access when prompted.
- Tap the recording button and speak naturally.
- Tap again to finish. Your completed text appears after processing.
- Choose Automatic emojis on or off. Slow and Fast use the same final correction and emoji settings.
Use the iPhone keyboard
Apple’s password fields and some apps use the system keyboard instead of third-party keyboards.
- Open iPhone Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard, then choose EchoLeaf.
- Select EchoLeaf in the keyboard list and enable Allow Full Access.
- Open EchoLeaf, sign in and enable Keyboard microphone.
- In a text field, hold the globe key and choose EchoLeaf. Tap its microphone to start, then tap again to finish. Keep the same text field open while processing completes.
Restore the keyboard microphone
If dictation is paused, use Restore microphone when it is offered. If the session cannot reconnect, open EchoLeaf and enable Keyboard microphone there. Another app’s microphone, an interruption, or an app that has stopped running can require this step.
If you already granted Full Access, you do not need to keep removing and re-adding the keyboard. Check that EchoLeaf is signed in and its microphone session is enabled.
Set up EchoLeaf on Mac
The current Mac edition is built for Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later.
- Open EchoLeaf and sign in with Apple.
- In Setup, allow Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring. Restart EchoLeaf if its setup guidance asks you to.
- In macOS Keyboard settings, set “Press Globe key to” to “Do Nothing” to avoid a competing system action.
- Click the text field you want to write in. Hold Fn/Globe, speak when Listening appears, then release to finish.
If Mac text is not inserted
Keep the original text field selected until processing finishes. Secure fields and some editors restrict insertion. Your transcript remains in Latest text, where you can copy it; follow the app’s message if it has already placed the text on the clipboard.
EchoLeaf does not press Send or Return for you. Review the text before sending.
Improve names, symbols and emoji matches
Choose the language you are speaking. Add recurring names and preferred spellings to Personal dictionary. On Mac, vocabulary hints can also help recognition choose a spelling.
The iPhone’s Settings → Spoken symbols lists supported English commands. Settings → Emoji matching guide shows available examples. On Mac, Browse emoji opens the searchable catalog.
Recognition, corrections and emoji matches can be imperfect, especially with ambiguous phrases. Emoji rendering also depends on your operating system. Turn Automatic emojis off whenever you want plain text.
Understand your weekly words
The free allowance is 1,500 words per week on iPhone and 2,500 on Mac. It resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC. The app displays the reset time in your local time zone.
Usage counts completed output, including one word for each emoji. Retrying the same completed take does not count it again, and copying History does not spend more words. Reaching the allowance does not start a purchase. An over-limit take remains available for recovery.
When reporting a problem
Include your device model, operating-system version, EchoLeaf version, selected language, and the steps that led to the issue. For a text mismatch, a short non-sensitive example of what you said and what appeared is helpful.
Do not send your Apple password, payment details, or private recordings.
Let’s help you find your flow.
